Disabling the Power Down Feature of the 82566 GbE on EKF CCG-RUMBA: =================================================================== To disable the Power Down Feature of the 82566 Gigabit Ethernet Controller on the CCG-RUMBA an update of the NVM (*1) image is necessary by reprogramming parts of the SPI (*2) flash memory on EKF CCG-RUMBA. Follow the steps described below for patching the NVM image on EKF CCG-RUMBA: - Copy all files of the ZIP archive to a bootable DOS formatted device (e.g. USB disk or USB stick) - Boot the system from this device - When the DOS prompt displays, press <566DISPD> - Wait for end of programming, view result. If an error occurs during programming (which is very unlikely), try batchfile 566DISPD.BAT once more BEFORE the system is reset - When finished successfully restart your system by a power-off-on sequence WARNING: Do not interrupt the programming procedure in order to avoid damage of the Flash. Programming takes max. 20 seconds if the batch file is loaded from a (USB) floppy disk and about 5 seconds when the batch file is loaded from an USB-Stick or a harddisk. NOTE: The batchfile also performs a check whether the NVM image contains a bad MAC-ID, e.g. 888888:888788. If so a warning is issued and the batchfile recovers the original MAC-ID. (*1) NVM = Non Volatile Memory (*2) SPI = Serial Peripheral Interface Any questions? Email to support@ekf.de 2009-02-17 EKF
